Q4 2024 Bank Executive Business Outlook Survey Report

President Trump has wasted no time in making changes to the government as part of his second administration, and some media reports have suggested he could soon look to combine the federal banking agencies as part of a drive to make the government more efficient.

When asked about the prospects of regulatory mergers, bankers were largely split down the middle. Slightly more said they would support a streamlining of bank regulatory supervision (52%), with 81% of those respondents saying it’s because there’s simply too many agencies overseeing individual banks, constituting a burden. Of those who opposed consolidation, a quarter said they worried any bill by Congress to combine agencies would end up with more restrictions on banks.
